Forgotten victim of LAPD violence Ray Vitte. Mr Vitte was an actor. His biggest role was in the 1978 movie "Thank God It's Friday". He was well liked by his fellow cast mates and was very good friends with Donna Summer. The reason why the LAPD gunned down Ray Vitte in 1983 is crazy and the explanation is just as crazy. The truth is the LAPD gun downed Ray Vitte in his own home. They said he was "drugged out of his mind and preaching & screaming the words of god at his neighbors". I am sure Ray did not know that could get you killed!
Now What neighbor called and why is not what matters here. What does matter is that it was obvious that Mr Vitte was "GUNNED DOWN and MURDERED" by the LAPD. Mr Vitte never did point a gun at the neighbors or the LAPD. In fact he didn't have a gun on his person at the time he was murdered.
Whatever happened to the policeman that did this? I bet he was promoted. If he was white I am sure he was promoted that day.
That was 1983. African Americans said that the LAPD killed an innocent man. Nobody at the DA'S office did anything. I do not even know if there was a real internal affairs investigation about this. Some how I don't think so. What was sad is that nobody really did listen to the black community about the complaints they had about the LAPD. It took another 8 years (and video tape evidence) that proved the LAPD did use excessive against African Americans.
That proof of course was the video tape beating of Rodney King.

Very sad that this happened and that he is forgotten . I just saw him on a rerun of What's Happening! I used to think he was so cute when I was a kid.
You don't know what the heck you are talking about. You need to get your facts straight before making such reports. That's exactly how rumors are started. Ray Vitte was not gunned down by the police. He was scuffling with the police and died from possible blunt force or strangulation from a choke hold or maybe even from an aliment aggravated by teargas that was sprayed during the scuffle but he simply was not gunned down. Their was no gun involved in his death/murder.
New York Times obituary section 1983 read it no gun mentioned. Can we all just get along :'(

Actually whoever said that "a a drugged out of his mind danger to society died", maybe you should get your facts straight before you make such ignorant comments. I am Raymon's second cousin and he was not "drugged out" or a "danger" to society, there were no drugs found in his system, and he was "speaking in tongues", and there is never any harm in praying. No, all cops aren't bad, and yes druggies and junkies are, but he was neither. His death was and still is questionable, especially since the "coroner" can still list the cause of death as what they want, and there was no second autopsy done to see if that was really the case. And realistically its not like it would be the first time a person's cause of death was fabricated,especially in that day and time. Maybe no one will ever know, but I do know its never wise to make assumptions about a person or their character based on what you read, especially if you never knew the person.Who knows,
you could possibly be in a similar situation one day and you would hope someone would not make the same uneducated and stereotypical judgements about yourself! mmm'kay!

Forgive me..I need to correct a statement I made. A second medical examination was done on his body which showed no evidence of the "so called" liver problems and heart failure brought on by the so called "sickle cell disease" claimed by the coroner.
while he may not have been drugged out, he certainly wasn't gunned down.
If he was such a man of God, why did he not reflect that in his movies? However, I am here not to dispute this man's convictions, but to rebuke the blatent lie posted by this blogger.

My sister Silvana and I were both actors living in L.A. at the time. She worked with Ray on some TV show and he was a really nice young man. I was shocked to read he was arrested for chanting and somehow managed to die on the way to the Police Station. I'm sure he was murdered. Many of the cops in L.A. at the time were racist, homophobic bastards who felt they could do whatever they wanted, I had been stopped more than once by the police because of what I looked like. There was one time I was arguing with my partner on the way home from a bar when two cops stopped us, one white and one African-American. The white cop wanted to beat me to death and probably would have if the African-American cop hadn't stopped him. Like Mr. Vitte, I was from New York and didn't just shut up and back down when thrown up against a wall by the white cop, who had his baton raised and you could see the hatred he felt for this Latino Gay man who dared talk back to him. Reopen Ray Vitte's case.

Why did Ray Vitte keep attacking the Police Officers, something wasn't right with him, maybe he was having a Mental Breakdown or Undiagnosed Diabetic, which will make some seem Intoxicated and act irrationally. His death is sad, not being there, I would not want to be in the Police Officers shoes daily having people attacking them in many aspects!!!! I judge Neither side. Vitte died at the hands of LAPD. People have had enough and are taking the fight to them. Now it is not "unheard of" for so-called LE to duck from folks gunning for them. The days of the citizenry "trembling" in fear of the LAPD or LASD or CHP are over...
Does that make it better. The bigger picture is the many deaths of blacks by the police without any justification. Why is it so hard to comprehend the pain that was and is caused by this racism.
